Full-Spectrum CBD Is Under Threat – And Millions Could Lose Access

Full-Spectrum CBD Is Under Threat – And Millions Could Lose Access

Over the past decade, full-spectrum CBD has become a lifeline for families, older adults, veterans, and anyone seeking safe, non-intoxicating support for chronic pain, anxiety, seizures, and sleep challenges. Yet despite its proven benefits and long-standing legal status, access to these products is now at risk on a national scale.

Recent federal proposals lump intoxicating hemp derivatives together with non-intoxicating CBD, threatening a sweeping ban that would harm the very people hemp laws were created to help. In a recent interview with Forbes as well as in a recent op-ed published by Westword, we outlined the urgent need to correct this misunderstanding and to protect access for the millions of Americans who rely on CBD every day.

Today, we want to expand on that message, and ask for your help.

What Exactly Is Full-Spectrum CBD?

Full-spectrum CBD refers to a hemp extract that contains all the naturally occurring cannabinoids in the plant, including trace amounts of THC within the federal limit of ≤0.3% delta-9 THC. These trace amounts are non-intoxicating and essential to the “entourage effect,” where cannabinoids and terpenes work together to create greater therapeutic benefit.

For people seeking relief from chronic pain, sleep issues, anxiety, or seizure disorders, full-spectrum CBD often provides measurable improvement where other options have failed.

Why Was It Legalized in the First Place?

The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and all hemp-derived products that contain less than 0.3% delta-9 THC. Lawmakers recognized that:

  • these products are non-intoxicating,

  • they pose no risk for abuse, and

  • they can support quality of life and wellness for millions.

Full-spectrum CBD became legal not because of loopholes, but because of clear scientific evidence and strong consumer demand for safe, plant-based options.

So Why Is It Under Threat Now?

The rapid rise of intoxicating hemp derivatives (like unregulated delta-8 THC) has created confusion. Instead of targeting the real issue  (intoxicating, synthetically produced cannabinoids) some policymakers are considering broad, unspecific bans that would eliminate non-intoxicating CBD access entirely.

This approach is not only misguided; it’s harmful.

A safer path already exists.

Many states have developed strong, successful regulatory models that limit intoxicating products while preserving access to full-spectrum CBD. These models include:

  • third-party testing

  • clear labeling

  • THC thresholds

  • manufacturing protections

  • purchase age limits

  • responsible retail rules

These models work. They protect consumers and ensure access.

Federal leaders should be learning from these successes; not undermining them.

How You Can Help Protect Access in 2026

We’re calling on our community to lead from the bottom up.

Your story can teach policymakers what the science and regulations already show: full-spectrum CBD is safe, legal, non-intoxicating, and life-changing.

Step 1: Call Your Elected Officials

Even a two-minute call makes an impact. Your voice helps leaders understand:

  • how CBD helps you

  • how your state’s regulations protect you

  • why federal policy must follow state successes

  • why removing access would cause harm

A simple script is included below.

  • U.S. House Members: https://www.house.gov/representatives

PHONE SCRIPT

“Hello, my name is ________, and I live in ________ (city/state).

I am calling because full-spectrum CBD has significantly improved my quality of life; helping me with ________ (pain, anxiety, sleep, seizures, etc.).

I’m asking you to support a federally regulated pathway in 2026 that preserves access to full-spectrum CBD while strengthening national safety standards.

This therapy is non-intoxicating, legal, and essential for millions of Americans.

Thank you for making this a priority.”

Step 2: If You Can’t Call, We Can Share Your Story for You

The Bottom Line: Your Voice Protects Access

Full-spectrum CBD has helped countless Americans reclaim their daily lives. Welcoming federal policy that reflects the reality lived every day by families, patients, seniors, and veterans shouldn’t be controversial; it should be common sense.

2026 must be the year federal leaders create a clear, safe, realistic CBD pathway.

But they will only act if they hear from you.

We’re here with you, every step of the way.

Your story is powerful; and it’s needed now more than ever.
