THC and CBD increase signaling from cannabinoid receptors, which reduces synaptic transmission in parts of the central and peripheral nervous systems and reduces the secretion of inflammatory factors from immune and glial cells. Cannabis is the most common illicit substance detected in suicide victims’ toxicology tests.
